How Quickly We Forget

I don't know how many of you have read the blog Little Green Footballs (not linking due to an AOS Moron policy to not give the blog any more traffic), but it started becoming popular among righties when writer Charles Johnson discovered that the documents that Dan Rather used in his news report on George W. Bush's wartime service were faked.

Johnson is an atheist. Nothing wrong with that, except that when the discussion on his blog turned to evolution vs. creationism his idea of debate was to ban anyone who posted in favor of creationism.

I kept him in the blog roll for awhile, but finally decided not to link to him because he had started leaning more towards the left. And it was becoming apparent that his personal views were adjusting to fit those of the people he most wanted to play with at any given time.

Johnson came out as a lefty earlier this week, which was basically just making it official -- it's like coming out as gay to your friends, chances are most of them knew already, you were just confirming it.

Anyway, in his apparent need to go "full lefty," Johnson has a post up on his site today about climate change. (Screenshots taken from Weasel Zippers)

Note the first line: "A few years ago, I used to doubt there really were climate change denialists..."

Apparently, he has a very short memory -- as far back as 2007, he was one of them.

How quickly we forget, huh, Johnson?

Cash4Gold and Consumerist

I'm sure everyone on the internet has heard about this story already, but for those who don't know about it, here it is.

Cash4Gold, who advertises that they pay "top dollar" for gold you send them, is suing two former employees and consumer site The Consumerist over claims that the "top dollar" figure is false advertising. The two employees had posted on a blog and a forum about the practices of Cash4Gold.

Consumerist, now being part of Consumer Reports, employed a different technique to test the employees claims by buying some relatively cheap gold, getting them appraised at pawn shops, then sending them in to Cash4Gold to see what they paid (along with two similar companies). The verdict -- Cash4Gold and the other companies didn't pay top dollar.

Now, to try to counter the bad PR, the Cash4Gold PR person's job has been going into overdrive to try to counter the claims and erase the damage of the story.

Too late. Story's out there all pink and naked.

Moral of the story: don't piss of The Consumerist.

Blog Gets In Trouble Over Comments that Might Have Been A Set-Up

Over the weekend, Free Republic had a "caption this picture" post featuring President Obama's daughter Malia wearing a t-shirt with a peace symbol on it. Well, a lot of the comments crossed the line when it came to racism, and the blog was forced to take the whole thread down.

I'm not saying this is what happened, but there is something rather fishy about the whole thing.

The guy who reported it for the Vancouver Sun? His name is Chris Parry, and he has blogged in the past under the name "hollywoodoz" at Daily KOS. In the past he had advocated flooding conservative blogs with hate speech so that the site administrators would get blamed.

Is he responsible for what happened at Free Republic? Don't know. Coincidence? Don't know that, either. But it does kill his credibility, doesn't it?

From DPUD:

You know, my first thought on the one comment on the post about the PA swim club here was that someone was trying to do the exact same thing to us. Why I have no freaking clue.

The Obama Campaign Astroturfing? Can't Be True!

I don't have a lot of time to post the details, but several bloggers including Rusty Shackleford from the Jawa Report and Ace have been doing research into a anti-Palin video that was allegedly posted by a "grass roots" organization which may have actually been posted by a professional PR firm.

For those not familiar with the term "astroturfing," it's a play on the term "grass roots," except when you "astroturf," it's a way to make something look like a grass roots effort. It's not illegal, it's just disingenuous.

In this case, the video in question was a smear against Palin which was proven false several weeks ago -- that she was a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, which amongst other things believes that Alaska should secede from the union. Since the reporting started, the YouTube accounts of the people hosting the video were deleted by the owners of the accounts.

I suggest you start at the links above to get the full details.

Quick Takes

Since my blogging is somewhat limited to what I can fit into a post in between the Little One's needs, I'm going to do a quick-take post on what's been going on as of late.

-- Republican Vice-Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin's e-mail account was hacked into. The person allegedly responsible is the son of a congressman.

-- The economy is in the dumper. What else is new?

-- Democratic VP nominee Joe Biden said it was our "patriotic duty" to pay higher taxes. And of course, the McCain campaign jumped all over it.

-- Liberals still frothing at the mouth over the selection of Sarah Palin as the Republican VP choice.

The Edwards/Hunter Affair Roundup

There's only one thing you can count on these days -- that the new media is going to be on top of the stories that everyone really wants to know about before the mainstream media decides to jump on it.

This week, it's the Edwards/Hunter scandal. Although covered in blogs and the National Enquirer, the mainstream media neglected to jump on this one until John Edwards (D-rain on Society) tried a half-assed attempt to "clear the air" by trying to cover it up amidst the Olympics on Nightline, not realizing that ABC was going to promote the interview.

As of this coming Saturday, I will be 32 weeks, or 8 months, pregnant. Which means in a few weeks I am going on maternity leave.

I'm still looking for contributors who would like to help me out by contributing articles and such for a couple of weeks while I am out taking care of the little one.

If interested, leave a comment here or e-mail me at scooppc11@yahoo.com.

Calling All Parents!

I don't normally put out more personal messages on this blog, but I thought I would consult the moronosphere and beyond to all the parents out there and see if anyone can make any suggestions.

I got registries up at a few places, and I want to make sure I am not forgetting any essentials/must haves to put on there.

The registries are at Wal-Mart, Target and Pottery Barn Kids. I wanted to give people a wider option at different budgets. I've been deleting items as we've been getting them at yard sales and consignment stores, so we already have a lot already. But I just want to make sure we aren't forgetting anything.

What we have so far:

-- Crib
-- Bassinet
-- High chair
-- Baby bathtub
-- Vicks dehumidifier
-- Electric swing
-- High chair
-- Stroller
-- Car seat
-- Travel system (car seat with stroller)
-- Amusement cube

I've also bought a lot of baby clothes, but I don't want to put that down here as an "already have" because, quite frankly, we can always use more baby clothes. We are trying to focus more on making sure we have more clothes in the 3-6 months range to start in case we do end up with a big baby and so that Christopher doesn't outgrow his clothes too quickly, although from the yard sales we got a lot of 0 to 3 months just in case, also. What's a good way to get that across to people what we are trying to do, also?

I'm Putting Another Call Out

I'm reaching month 6 of my pregnancy next week, and I am still soliciting for guest bloggers for while I am on maternity leave.

The only things you need to be are conservative and have a good eye for news. AOS Moronbloggers are welcome to apply, of course.

Let me know by putting a comment below or e-mail me at scooppc11@yahoo.com.

Have a Recipe To Contribute?

Have a recipe to share? The Cotillion is getting together recipes from the blogosphere and releasing a cookbook.

I'm thinking of submitting a recipe that my father created when I was a kid that he based on an episode of "Yan Can Cook" that he made his own twist on. I'm going to have to e-mail my brother to see if he can get me the recipe. We called them "Donuts" because they were round like one. But they definitely were a whole different breed of food.

If Christopher Were To Act Like This Kid...

I would so be doing this. (h/t Bar Slaves and Bananas...thanks for adding me, BTW :) )

Apparently this kid is a pretty hard-core gamer and his mother has been asking him to do some of the household chores for the past three weeks. He performed none of these but instead squatted on Xbox Live for most of this time screaming “n00bs” and “pwn3d” at every person he could. This snowflake eventually DID get off of his ho-ho eating ass though… but only to break the damned vacuum cleaner.

-Line, you have been crossed.

Now I don’t know if you guys have any idea how much even a cheap vacuum costs, but last time I looked the starting price for just a POS that half-assed does it’s job is around $150, and look higher to about $250 and up if you want one that actually works.

It's sad that these days it takes extreme stuff like this to get a kid's attention. But if this is what it takes, I give a big thumbs up to the mother. The auction has ended, but the entry can be found here.

This Was Intended For My MySpace Blog

But it's acting a little funky when I try to start a new post, so it's going to go here for now.

I've actually finished a second draft of my screenplay that I've been working on since college.

Work has put the biggest hold on me getting it done in a timely manner. But with me now out of work for the time being, I figured I should probably finish the second draft and put it out there for comment.

Behold..."ZombieMart!"

I've made my corrections on a hard copy that I'm going to transfer over within the next week or so. My husband is looking over the draft and making suggestions (fresh pair of eyes). So I'm giving you folks the chance to make comments and suggestions on what I can do to this script, also.

The plot: A former Wal-Mart employee is forced to go back to the store where she worked with her fiance after her manager is bitten by someone carrying a mysterious illness that has turned citizens into zombies. But because she is a movie fan (and recently graduated with her degree in film), she knows the ins and outs of zombie films, so she knows what to do even though the rest of her crew doesn't believe her.

I know, zombie movies have been done to death lately. But, they're also still commercial enough to warrant capitalizing on them. I got the idea as 1) a worse case scenario if something were to happen between the time I graduated and the time I got married, and 2) after watching almost a month long stretch of zombie films.

I've made some changes on a hard copy already, so some things you see here won't be in the final script. My husband has already made the comment about some of the language being "stilted" (he said it was fine for the lead character because she is an academic type, but all my characters were talking the same way she was). But any other changes that you guys can suggest would be great.

Moronosphere Update

I am now officially an Ace o' Spades Moronblogger!

Actually, I have been one since last week, but I'm working on getting the javascript so I can blogroll the rest of the crew on this blog, and remove anyone from the conservative links list who might repeat.

doubleplusundead has been keeping track of interesting entries throughout the moronosphere (I've been featured a few times already), so go and check out what everyone else is doing until I can get the blogroll installed.

Update: The Moronosphere Blogroll has been added, so go check out my fellow moron bloggers.
