You're Going To Cry Over a Dead Tree?

Seriously???

Incidentally, Penn and Teller this week focused on the Organic Food movement. And blew a hole into all the arguments that people make about organic versus non-organic. I think it was a coincidence that they aired it the week that a new study came out that said there was no significant difference in nutrition between organic and non-organic. (warning: NSFW for language and nudity towards the end)

MeMe Roth -- America's Annoying Mother

I don't know if you've seen this woman on television, but there's a woman in NY named MeMe Roth who is the president (and apparently only member) of the advocacy group National Action Against Obesity. In the past, this woman has just gone over the top with her "activism."

A sampling of her craziness:

-- Has derided celebrities in the past over their own healthy habits. The more notable example being her comments about American Idol winner Jordin Sparks (who isn't extremely heavy bot isn't a stick figure, either) : "When I look at Jordin, I see diabetes, heart disease, I see high cholesterol ... She’s the vision of unhealth."

-- Her war against cupcakes in school.

-- Destroying a snack table at a YMCA in Pennsylvania because she was offended by the fact that they were having an ice cream party.

-- Her war on Girl Scout cookies.

-- And the list goes on and on...

Well, she's been in the news again the past couple of months. I'm surprised that I missed this article on her last month from The Guardian. They interviewed her about her advocacy, and then managed to get an uncomfortable truth about her own eating habits that she wasn't willing to admit right away -- the woman won't eat until after she's done her workout, which means there have been occasions where she's skipped breakfast AND lunch. In fact, at the time of the interview she had done just that -- while the interviewer was talking to her, he noted the time as 3:30 p.m., and she admitted that she hadn't eaten at that point.

NY Times also had an article on her this past Monday on her "advocacy" at her children's school, which has gotten to the point where the administration has asked her to move from the district so they didn't have to deal with her. It started over a juice pop that her child was given by a teacher on a hot day, and it kind of went downhill from there.

Look, I admire anyone who tries to bring attention to the issue, but this woman is just annoying, and doesn't even follow her own advice. She's not interested in health, she just doesn't like people who are fat.

Think that's overboard? Here is a statement from the "Wedding Dress Challenge" that she ran at one point:

Most women I know commit fraud on their wedding days--they weigh-in for the walk down the aisle with no expectation of maintaining that weight year after year ... Somewhere between the wedding reception and delivery room, many women abandon their brains, body and libido. It's wrong to be fat. It's easy, but it's wrong ... Dump your friends who plan to grow fatter with every year. Surround yourself with those who aspire to greater things.

Roth is not interested in you. She's interested in making everyone look like her.

Well, if being skinny means having her mentality, I'll gladly stay fat.

Review: "The Goode Family"

Mike Judge's latest effort is a little bit on the tempered side, but it's a good watch.

I've talked about the show earlier this week. Judge is treading a thin line on this one -- making fun of his main characters while at the same time making them likable characters, as well, so people watch the show. At least with this first episode he manages to do a good job doing both, but we'll have to see how it goes with future episodes.

In the episode, mom Helen (Nancy Walls Carell) is trying to talk to her daughter Bliss (Linda Carvelli) about sex. But Bliss is so embarrassed about the idea of discussing sex with her mom, she decides to get involved with an abstinence group instead.

It's got some clever jokes (such as the board at the One Earth market switching back and forth on whether catfish is bad), but I think it will take some time to get to "King of the Hill" levels. The point of the show doesn't seem to be making fun of their movement as much as making fun of the idea that what is "good" for us keeps changing, making it hard to keep up, with this family taking it to the extreme. One clever sidenote is Helen and husband Gerald (Mike Judge) trying to get around asking their neighbor whether his race preferred to be called African-American, person of color, or something else, and asking the question who decided these things so the don't offend.

We'll have to see what happens next week. Judge, like I said before, is usually on the money. It may take a few episodes to get its full footing.

Jack Thompson Strikes Again

One thing I thought I wrote about but apparently I didn't was how disbarred wanker Jack Thompson tried to get legislation passed in Utah twice before making it a criminal offense to sell an M rated game to a minor, then tried to get a new bill through that would make it illegal if a store advertised that they didn't sell M rated games to minors, but were found to do so.

After the House and Senate in Utah passed it, the governor ended up vetoing it over concerns that the bill would make it too easy to get M rated games in the hands of kids because then the companies can skip putting a rating on the game to avoid the whole thing.

Thompson is now threatening to criminally prosecute every member of the Utah legislature because he didn't get his way.

It has been more than a month since Gov. Jon Huntsman vetoed Jack Thompson's video game bill, but the disbarred attorney continues to wage an e-mail war with various Utah government officials. In his latest and most bizarre salvo, Thompson has threatened to have the entire Utah legislature - all 104 House and Senate members - prosecuted by the F.B.I. for violating his civil rights.

GamePolitics readers will recall that in April State Senate President Michael Waddoups asked Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff (another favorite target of Thompson's vitriol) to look into prosecuting Thompson for alleged spam. The Senate President was offended by an Easter morning e-mail from Thompson which included a screenshot of a pair of strippers giving GTA IV protagonist Nico Bellic a lap dance. Last week Thompson wrote to the F.B.I.'s Salt Lake City Field Office seeking the prosecution of Waddoups for supposedly infringing on his right to petition the government.

Here are some of the other articles that I wrote on Thompson. The guy is just so focused on his cause that he doesn't know where to draw the line, so he keeps crossing it.

I don't think this will be brought up in the Utah legislature again. ButI wonder if he will do the same thing to the Louisiana legislature if it gets out of committee and gets voted down there?

The Difference Between a Draft and a Volunteer Army

You can't go to Canada to avoid service and expect to be welcomed with open arms.

Unlike the 30,000 to 50,000 American deserters who were given legal refuge in Canada during the Vietnam War, this latest crop of runaways is viewed by Canadian immigration authorities not as conscientious objectors avoiding a draft but as volunteers unwilling to fulfill their promise to the military and undeserving of refugee status.

"These claims that are coming up now are different from those of the Vietnam era. These individuals were volunteers and were not subject to forced military subscription. That's the difference," Shadd said.

Corey Glass had gone to Canada because he was told that he would only have to serve if American borders were threatened. Then he got sent to Iraq for an 18 month stint. He had come home for a leave, and made the decision to hide out in Canada, thinking that he would be AWOL and would get arrested. Turned out that he didn't need to do that.

Since deserting his unit in Iraq and fleeing to Canada two years ago, Corey Glass has become the poster boy of the war resistors movement. Thursday in Toronto, supporters are planning to protest his scheduled deportation back to the United States.

But it turns out Glass has had little reason to be on the lam, ABCNews has learned.

Unknown to him and his legion of supporters, Glass, 25, was actually discharged from the U.S. Army shortly after he went AWOL in 2006.

..."I had absolutely no idea that I had been discharged," said Glass when ABC News informed him of his status. "This is insane. This is so weird. There are no warrants? No one is looking for me?"

According to U.S. Army documents and officials, Glass was discharged from the California National Guard Dec. 1, 2006, four months after he arrived in Canada and six months after he failed to show up to a required muster.

"He is not considered absent without leave. He is not considered a deserter," said Maj. Nathan Banks, an Army spokesman. "He is running for no reason. He is fully welcome in the United States. I cannot believe this is a big deal in Canada."

Sad thing is, this idiot will still get full military benefits out of this. Ugh.

Berkeley City Council Relents

Michelle Malkin is reporting that the preferential parking given to Code Pink to protest in front of the Marine Recruiting Center has been rescinded.

Yay!

Zomblog has pictures form this weekend's protest, along with an entry from Melanie Morgan.

I don't think it's going to stop the protests, but at least Code Pink no longer has the endorsement of the city.

Vegans Gone Wild!

The good thing is that people are willing to stand up to these loons and tell them where to go on their beliefs. It's fine to have them, but don't impose them on everyone else.

1) Laura Beth Aaron wrote an editorial for the Union Leader that appeared today that makes the claim that the reason society is so violent is because humans kill animals.

She's not referring to the type of abuse that some serial killers have been known to engage in before trying out their torture methods on their human victims. She is referring to the type of killing that puts food on our plates, namely hunting and fishing.

America is the real-time result of these age-old traditions that have reckless disregard for the lives and habitats (but for what profit and self-gratification can be garnered) of other living beings. Now I understand how it is that our news and social order are filled with so many acts of predation. If we consider ourselves the "top predators," it stands to reason that behaviors manifest violence. The animals in nature have managed themselves for millennia; enter human meddling and what a mess!

Those wise people who tried to warn humanity of the consequences of brutality to animals would weep today as history continues to repeat itself, as we still have not learned the meaning of "as we sow, so shall we reap."

I agree with the quote, "Whatever a person does to animals will be paid back in kind."

Russian author Leo Tolstoy is supposed to have said, "From the murder of animals to the murder of humans is only a small step."

"Hunting is one of the surest means of killing people's feelings for their fellow creatures," goes another quote.

And, as always, when bringing up these types of discussions, "in the name of the children" is invoked.

The little girl in the photo smiles at the dead fish in her hands, not even considering that she drowned them, and that they could not breathe after being taken out of their habitat, a habitat increasingly being polluted and threatened by human activity rooted in the pretentious assumption that all creatures are on this earth to be culled, harvested, hunted and slaughtered for human benefit. This moral code strikes me as totally opposite of what religious teachings imply.

The Union Leader comments had not only the author writing to the posters, but the posters telling her was a strange leap of logic she made.

This was probably my favorite comment out of the story, and makes a heck of a lot of sense.
It seem like NH is not the type of place for a person like you to live with our heritage of hunting and fishing.
- Brian, Laconia NH

2) An item that was on NewsBusters today pointed to a Rutland Herald story about a teacher who had unfairly punished a ten year old boy for talking about that Spring's turkey hunt during a free snack time. Since this is in Vermont, a.k.a. "Granola Country," this does not surprise me in the least.

The couple addressed the local school board Monday night to air their grievance.

Bordwell said in a telephone interview that she believed her son was "singled out" by Kathleen Backus, Jared's teacher, while talking about hunting with a schoolmate.

Bordwell said that, during snack time, Jared was discussing the recent spring turkey hunting season with a classmate when Backus interrupted the conversation, insisting that there be no talk of "killing" in her classroom.

Reached through a relative, Backus declined to comment.

At Monday's board meeting, Bordwell read from a prepared statement.

"I believe that Ms. Backus' perception of hunting and hunters have led her to treat Jared in an inappropriate manner, singling him out unfairly," she told the board.

Bordwell and her husband, Martin Harrington, complained to the school board about their son's treatment by the teacher. Soon after this incident, the teacher had started doing a "working" snack time, which they found out after they pulled their son from school to home school him for the last ten days of school was never enforced, meant to punish him for talking about hunting.

In an interview, Boardwell said that while Backus told her and Jared's father "emphatically that she had no problem with hunting," her comments made it clear that she did, in fact, deplore sport hunting.

Bordwell said that after the incident at school, Jared's father approached Backus, questioning the teacher about her "reprimand" of his son.

"The confrontation ended with Ms. Backus demanding that Marty leave the classroom, screeching, 'I went hiking this weekend and saw a moose and a bear, and I will never tell you where they are because you might kill them," Bordwell said.

As I was telling my husband this story, his initial reaction was that he could understand the teacher's reaction if the son was talking blood and guts details about his hunting. But from what I gather from the story, he only asked his friend where he got his first turkey this past season, which caused the teacher to cover her ears and go "la, la, la, la," prompting another teacher to ask her about her odd behavior. Her response was that she did not want to hear about the boys and their "killing."

I would fire the teacher, personally. But the parents are doing what they have to do. And I applaud them 100 percent.

Hippietown Finally Moving On Tree Sitters

University of California -- Hippietown (aka Berkeley) has finally decided to move on some tree sitters that had taken over an old oak tree 18 months ago that are sitting there illegally. Their issue was that they wanted to keep the grove the way it was. Never mind the fact that these trees were not old growth trees and that they would be replaced three to one -- the trees must be saved!

Michelle Malkin has details at her site. I feel sorry for the poor campus police that has to deal with these nutjobs.

PETA Reaches A New Low

PETA has issues with people using animals for any purpose. But they don't see an issue with exploiting a 12-year-old girl for their purposes.

CONCORD, N.C. -- Some parents say a PETA protest at a Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus in Cabarrus County went too far by including a 12-year-old girl in a cage.

The girl volunteered and her mother gave permission.

PETA says it represents the suffering animals encounter traveling with the circus.

Circus production manager Jason Gibson says he’s seen hundreds of PETA protests in his 11 years with the circus.

"This is the first time I've seen anything like this,” Gibson said. "It's very disturbing to see it like that."

Feminists Piss Me Off

So what got my ire up about them this time? The latest post from Nora Ephron in The Huffington Post. (h/t Hot Air)

Here's another thing I don't like about this primary: now that there are only two Democratic candidates, it's suddenly horribly absolutely crystal-clear that this is an election about gender and race. This may have always been true, but weeks ago it wasn't so obvious -- once upon a time there were eight candidates, and although six of them withered away, their presence in the campaign managed to obscure things. Even around the time of Ohio, when there were primarily three candidates, the outlines were murky, because Edwards was still in there, picking up votes from all sectors.

But now there are two and we're facing Pennsylvania and whom are we kidding? This is an election about whether the people of Pennsylvania hate blacks more than they hate women. And when I say people, I don't mean people, I mean white men. How ironic is this? After all this time, after all these stupid articles about how powerless white men are and how they can't even get into college because of overachieving women and affirmative action and mean lady teachers who expected them to sit still in the third grade even though they were all suffering from terminal attention deficit disorder -- after all this, they turn out (surprise!) to have all the power. (As they always did, by the way; I hope you didn't believe any of those articles.)

To put it bluntly, the next president will be elected by them: the outcome of Tuesday's primary will depend on whether they go for Hillary or Obama, and the outcome of the general election will depend on whether enough of them vote for McCain. A lot of them will: white men cannot be relied on, as all of us know who have spent a lifetime dating them. And McCain is a compelling candidate, particularly because of the Torture Thing. As for the Democratic hope that McCain's temper will be a problem, don't bet on it. A lot of white men have terrible tempers, and what's more, they think it's normal.

1) This is the reason why Democrats have the "elitist" title on them to begin with.

2) She is a step away from calling all white men "abusers" in this piece.

3) She's using the same damn feminists arguments to justify her statements about "white men."

I hate feminists. I really do. As much as I agree to the idea of equal rights for all regardless of race or gender, I can't bear to call myself a feminist because I love men too much. Her whole argument is based on the concept that "white men are evil" and that "they have all the power." Although she will deny it, diversity in this country has forced white man and men in general into the background when it comes to education and employment.

Below is a picture of one of the many men in my life who makes a difference every day -- my husband.

He is the biggest teddy bear in the world. He is not the "typical white male" stereotype that Ephron portrays him to be. I have only seen him raise his voice a few times since I've known him, and never to me. He treats me like a queen, and he's there for me every step of the way. Whenever I hear people denigrate men, I keep thinking to myself that it's because they don't have the pleasure of knowing this man.

My husband, as well as the other men in my life such as my brother (a Navy veteran who served at Guantanamo Bay for a few months) and my late father, are the reason why I don't agree with feminism.

Wobbly Nomad Update: He's Been Reinstated

Michelle Malkin reports:

Three weeks ago, I told you about the violent postings of Iraq Veterans Against the War member Evan Knappenberger, who threatened the Gathering of Eagles and advocated my assassination. I offered thanks to an IVAW official who announced that Knappenberger had been indefinitely suspended. Well, now that IVAW’s Winter Soldier hearings are over, it looks like things are back to normal.

“Normal” for the nutroots, that is.

Bellingham Herald reporter/blogger Sam Taylor reports that Knappenberger has been reinstated by the group.

I looked to see if he re-opened his blog to the general public, but I noticed that Blogger took it down. Good for them!

Zombie Protest Pictures

(h/t Michelle Malkin)

Zombie has his latest pictures from the San Francisco anti-war protests from March 19 up. Some of my personal favorites:
And why should we give Mercedes-Benz a chance? Hmmm?

From our side...and pretty funny.

Wobbly Nomad Update: Now You Have To Be Invited

To read his hate. Hah!

Yeah, I know. I'm kind of childish, but you know what? My goal was to inform people of what he was doing. So, I did my job. Let him soak in his own hate and eat him alive. I don't care.

Wobbly Nomad Update: Still Full Of Anger

Well, he seems to be directing most of his hate towards Michelle Malkin these days. (warning: Rough language)
Shit. That is what Michele "Bitch" Malkin is.

Two friends of mine got killed today for her bullshit freedom.
http://icasualties.org/oif/pdf/20080317-01-MND-B.pdf

Another is in a VA hospital in Texas with TBI.

Fuck you Malkin, and your fucking kind. There are not words for the disgust this soldier feels for you. There are not words that can wash away the blood on your hands, bitch. Fuck you Fuck You FUCK YOU.

SHUT THE FUCK UP, YOU FUCKING BITCH.

SHUT THE FUCK UP!

Such...eloquent...language, don't you think?

For those who don't know the story, go here and here for some history. He still talks about IVAW as if he is still a full member with them, although his membership was suspended because of these incidents.

As bad as I feel about what happened to his friends...it's still a volunteer military. They chose to be there.

Wobbly Nomad Update: You Would Think He Would Drop It By Now

He already got enough negative attention from his postings about Gathering of Eagles. But no, he's still at it. Today, it's this moronic post on common decency towards another human being.

Haha more proof that Michele Malkin is a bitch.

I just found out that she cried on youtube when some "left wing NUTJOBS" threatened to ...

wait for it...

...

egg her house.

Thats it. They didn't mortar it. Didn't murder her dog. They just threatened to egg her house, and she cried like a bitch. Oh, poor Michele Malkin. I bet she feels like Jodie Foster with all these Wobbly Nomads after her!

I think it is actually kind of funny, as I have actually recieved real death threats from her whimpering smeagols. Oh yeah. I lived through a war. My friends ate it. And all she can do is whimper on youtube.

Fuck you, Malkinite bitch. I got what I wanted from you. Don't think that you're above anything, you scumbag smeagols. And don't be scared to show up and... have your opinions changed... fuckers.

He does realize that egging someone else's house is still against the law, right? It's called vandalism. He should look it up.

I have no respect for this guy. But I think he should honestly be exposed to the light, which is why I keep posting about him. I want enough people to see him for the angry little man he is and show what the leftist moonbats are truly thinking. Because he is not alone.

Wobbly Nomad watch: More rants from a lunatic

Since the guy has now had his membership in Iraq Veterans Against the War suspended for the time being, I went over there to see what he had to say about it, if anything.

No apology.

No "I'm sorry for threatening the lives of Michelle Malkin and the Gathering of Eagles."

No, just some rants saying that people didn't "get him."

However, I did see his posts that caused all the controversy have been taken down from the site. No doubt pressured by IVAW. But it's still the same profanity-laced rants that he had before because he can't make an intelligent argument, only rant about people he hates.

Well, as an "Eagle" of sorts (not a member of GOE, but a big supporter in the cause), I am going to answer him right here -- I support the mission, I support our troops. And it is getting better over there.

He can spout numbers all he likes, but the thing he can not deny is that the death tolls have gone down since the beginning of this war. He apparently didn't take history, because several years after World War II there were still terrorist bombings after we won the war.

As much as he would like to believe that this war is another Vietnam, it isn't. We had a cause this time, and we are winning. That was one of the lessons we learned in fighting Vietnam -- do not leave until the war is won. We pull out now, we have lost.

The troops are not children or babies we have to protect. It's still an all volunteer military we have here. The men and women who are there are there voluntarily. They can take care of themselves -- that's what they are trained to do. And they are there to take care of us.

I honestly hope he reads this. Just so I can say that I responded.

Update on Wobbly Nomad

The "person" who owns the blog Wobbly Nomad on Blogspot has had his membership in Iraq Veterans Against the War suspended. He was confirmed to be Evan Knappenberger, a member of IVAW. From Michelle Malkin:

An IVAW official also issues an apology:

While this blog is not primarily an official blog, and often veers into the personal, I would like to put my official hat on and make the following statement on behalf of Iraq Veterans Against the War. The sentiments and official position are IVAW’s, the wording is mine. I am currently travelling with little internet access, and will be unable to respond to posted comments. If you would like a personal response or have questions or concerns about this post, please email armysergeant (at) ivaw (dot) org, and I will be able to email you a response promptly.

Iraq Veterans Against the War does not condone threats of violence or violence against idealogical opponents, for Winter Soldier or for any other event.

Iraq Veterans Against the War and I personally have invited a number of military and veteran bloggers to attend Winter Soldier, because it is an event for military and veterans. Some of those bloggers support the war in Iraq. Some do not. All of these bloggers will be safe and welcomed at Winter Soldier as fellow servicemembers and veterans. They will be blogging from an enclosed space with controlled access, and security personnel will be there for their safety and to help alleviate any concerns. I will also give my personal word of honor as a non-commissioned officer as a guarantor for the safety of any bloggers under my charge…

…Two members have been identified as making personal threats recently. One has been requested not to attend Winter Soldier, and the other situation is currently being handled internally.

Those of you who have served in the military know that you accept responsibility for all under your command, even actions specifically against your wishes or orders. As such, though the situations are far less exact than I would like, I would like to apologize both personally and professionally to Michelle Malkin, Robin, Nicki, Thus Spake Ortner, and Jonn Lilyea and others for the actions of these members, and assure the public that steps are being taken to ensure this does not occur again.

…Jonathan De Wald’s membership has been terminated, and he is no longer a member of IVAW.

Evan Knappenberger’s membership has been indefinitely suspended.

We are currently working on getting these people the peer support and assistance that they need to preclude future incidents from occuring. Peer support and assistance will also be available at Winter Soldier, for any members or veterans who may be suffering from PTSD or anger-related issues which are surfacing or worsening through this intense process.

At least THEY are doing something. I just hope that Blogspot removes his blog due to the threats and teach him a real lesson. And I hope that Knappenberger does get the help that he desperately needs before he really does hurt someone.

Remove This Guy Already

He's at it again.

If you haven't done it yet, flag this guy and get his blog removed from Blogger. He might not stay off the internet, but at least his threats will be reported and they will do something.

I didn't report on this last night, but after finding that his blog got attention from Michelle Malkin he half-heartedly backtracked on what he had said. If you read the post, you'll know why I said "half-heartedly."

Today, he is calling for a fatwah on Michelle.

The guy is delusional, and what he is doing can be considered illegal.

Again, flag this guy. I am only one person. More people out there can do more.

"Bomb Gathering of Smeagols"

Posted at MichelleMalkin.com:

This guy has his blog posted at Blogspot, where this blog is also hosted. Let them know about the threat since this violates the Terms of Use.

The thing is, this does not surprise me in the least. Each side has their extremes, but it seems that the entire left side of the blogosphere is more extreme than most, from what I have seen online. What this guy is referring to is the Gathering of Eagles counter-protest that is being planned Friday and Saturday in Washington, DC in support of our troops. The fact that he is even putting the thought out there is wrong. The fact that they have a different opinion than he does is not reason to condone the idea of bombing their activities.

Updated To Add: Here's the guy's full blog. It is really scary how much hate one person can hold towards one group of people who are defending his rights to hate them.

Another Update: Right on the Right is saying that a lot of Michelle's readers are reporting that this guy is claiming to be Evan M. Knappenberger, a member of an anti troop organization called Iraq Veterans Against The War. You see, that's the thing I can never fathom -- if you hate the military so much....WHY JOIN?
