There is a double standard in the media when it comes to Democrats and Republicans. And it's been more apparent this year than it has been in past years.
When Clinton was in office, daughter Chelsea was off limits to the press. They left her alone.
George W. Bush, when he got into office, had twin daughters that were starting college. Reports of their exploits hit the papers all the time with no regards of the appropriateness of reporting on their "exploits."
Barack Obama asks the press to keep his family "off-limits." Other than glowing stories about the family, the press have left his family alone.
Governor Sarah Palin thought she would be extended the same courtesy, but instead becomes the victim of smear campaigns against her and her family, including conspiracy theories about her son and daughter that are so far out there that it's incredible that people would believe them because they don't know how to do math.
So watching Palin in her interview for a new documentary coming out, I agreed with her. She has been unfairly attacked, and her family has been dragged through the mud, so much so that her future son in law has lost his job because of some unfounded questions about his participation in an apprenticeship program.
The press want to see the Palins fail. Actually, they want to see any Republican fail. But what I found incredible was the need of the press to report on the little stuff going on within her family, and then their incredulousness about it when Palin tries to defend herself and her family.
As I read story after story after story about Palin, it becomes clear to me that the press has it out for her. Having been a reporter, I can attest to the fact that reporters can get "snobby" when it comes to following a story, especially if they think that someone is "beneath" them. Usually that person as the letter (R) in their party name.
But for some reason, they can't hide their disgust when it comes to Palin. They don't like her because she is an outsider. She does the things that us normal folks do on a regular basis, and also deals with the same heartaches. She's a mom of five. She has a special needs child. Her daughter is a teenage mother. She's a Christian and lives those ideals. And she's a tough cookie.
But when she tlaks about hwo the press was (rightfully) unfair towards her, they say she's "whining." Then continue to ask the stupidest questions without doing their research.
It really ticks me off on how the press wants to ruin the average person who dares to live the average life. One unfounded investigation, and the person's life can be ruined. I'm starting to be glad that a lot of these newspapers who can't be bothered to check their facts are going under. If they can't do their job, they should be out of business.

Oh, I get it, when Carolyn Kennedy or some other top Democrat complains about coverage it's not whining. Only when it's a Republican or a libertarian like Palin.
Thanks for clearing that up for us.
