The World We Live In

It's pretty bad when a guy has to call the police to let them know that his search for his lost dog is legitimate.

Gus Fromuth says he had concerns about approaching youngsters while searching for his missing dog Monday. It turns out they were well founded.

His efforts prompted a New Hampshire Union Leader story yesterday about suspicious subjects approaching children in Manchester.

Fromuth said he called police yesterday and identified himself to juvenile officers, assuring them his was a legitimate search.

Fromuth, his family and friends are searching for a newly arrived "rescue" dog who bolted through an electronic fence at his North End home the night of March 16, just 36 hours after the dog was delivered from Arkansas by an organization that rescues retrievers.

"We started to comb that area," he said, and the search has continued for Angel, a black flat-coat retriever. Angel is wearing two red collars, one showing she's up to date for rabies shots and the other for the electronic fence that didn't stop her from running off. She also has an embedded chip for identification, but not for electronic tracking.

Fromuth said he has been in contact with the police department's animal control officer so often he's probably considered a pest, but he's concerned about the welfare of the dog.

If you live in the North End of Manchester and you see Angel, contact Fromuth at 661-0094. I'm sure that dog is pretty scared at this point.
