Other than the fact that this trailer looks pretty cool, you want to know another reason why I'm highlighting this trailer?

Yeah, a fantasy film takes place in Brattleboro, Vermont, of all places. I had to rewind the video to make sure I read that right.

From what I read online, the movie takes place in the 1950s, and the Lennox House is possibly based loosely on the Brattleboro Retreat, which at one point was the Vermont Asylum.  I lived in Brattleboro from 3rd grade until Freshman year of high school, so I got a kick out of this.

"Let Me In" Trailer Released

For those who don't know, this is a remake of a Swedish film that came out in 2008 called "Let The Right One In," which is based on a book called "Let Me In." (You confused yet?)  The Swedish film got excellent reviews, so naturally Hollywood came calling.

If you don't recognize the actress right away, you might if you saw the recent film "Kick-Ass" -- that's Chloe Moretz, who plays "Hit Girl."

It's another comic book movie with an adult edge called "Kick-Ass." The story: a high school kid decides to become a costumed superhero, and finds himself teaming up with former cop Big Daddy and his 12 year old daughter Hit Girl along with another costumed hero called Red Mist. The movie is slated to be rated R. This is the initial trailer.



I don't think it looks too bad. But if you saw the red band trailer, I think the impression would be that the movie is about Hit Girl. (NSFW) Allahpundit at Hot Air decided to write a post about the red band trailer, calling the movie "Hit Girl" in the headline, and so far people in the comments are not thrilled with a 12 year old swearing and killing people.



To me, it's very cartoony. Believe it or not, I hear the kids in my neighborhood use worse language than this at a much younger age (which is sad, really). I can understand their point of view, but for me it's just one big adult cartoon.

Trailer Sunday is REALLY Late Today...

Sorry, but there were other newsy things going on today.

So first up: a man who loses his wife and daughter in a hold up gets his revenge on the criminals who did it as well as the lawyer who brokered their deal in "Law Abiding Citizen."



The world of advertising gets another look, this time at the people who created the most popular ads in pop culture history in "Art and Copy."



A woman who has bad luck with romance decides to take some coins out of the Fountain of Love, and finds that she's inexplicably gotten the bearers of the coins to fall in love with her in "When In Rome."



A couple on the brink of divorce are forced to spend time in the Witness Relocation Program together after witnessing a murder in "Did You Hear About The Morgans?"

A serial killer takes on an apprentice in the dark comedy "How To Be a Serial Killer."



A gigolo and his grandfather take lessons from each other on how to navigate the dating game in "Play the Game."



A documentary of the behind the scenes workings of Vogue Magazine with influential editor Anna Wintour. This is "The September Issue."



Another adaptation of the classic story, Tim Burton style -- "Alice in Wonderland."

"Orphan" Campaign: What The Hell???

There's a little film that's coming out at the end of the month called "Orphan" that's about a young girl who is adopted and terrorizes the family she's in. Here's the trailer.



It's getting some controversy. Adoption rights groups have already complained about a line in the original trailer where Esther tells her new mother "It must be hard to love an adopted child as much as your own." But now a group calling itself the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute is expressing concerns that the movie will steer people away from adopting older children. Another group, Orphans Deserve Better, is asking the studio to donate a portion of the proceeds from the film to help orphans.

And in the end, the question about whether it puts orphans in a bad light might end up being moot. (spoilers -- highlight to read) It's been leaked on the internet that what's wrong with Esther is that she's not a 9 year old girl, but a 33 year old prostitute that has a disease that makes her look perpetually young. Her clients were men who wanted to indulge in pedophilic fantasies. The ribbons that are around her neck and wrists are to hide marks from when the leather straps cut into her skin when she was a mental patient. The reason why she's after the family is because the father of the family was one of her "Johns" and she is scheming to take over the family. (end spoilers)

So this movie is either going to be an instant camp classic, or a complete disaster.

This week we got some great trailers for you to peruse.

Steve Carell voices the lead character Gru, a mad scientist who finds that he's not despised by everyone in "Despicable Me."



Using two parallel true stories, we get the film "Julie and Julia." Julie Powell sets out on a project to cook every single recipe in Julia Child's "Mastering the Art of French Cooking." in the process, Julie not only learns more about life and love in the process, but we also get the story of chef Julia Child, a 6'2" woman who would show chefs everywhere how to cook.



Michael Myers is back in "Halloween II."



A writer learns that, in a world where everyone tells the truth, lying can get him what he wants in "The Invention of Lying."



A football fan's meeting with his idol takes an unexpected turn, and he faces decisions that he never thought he would have to make in "Big Fan."

And today's first featured trailer -- "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince." Enough said. It's coming out Wednesday.



Not Safe For Work -- the Red Band trailer for the latest film penned by Diablo Cody ("Juno," "The United States of Tara") -- "Jennifer's Body."



Just because I can't believe they've made a sequel -- "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel."



And a documentary about television. Well, about a character from radio and television that you might not have heard of. Gertrude Berg is the inventor of the character driven sitcom, writing and starring in "The Goldbergs." She won a Tony, and was the first woman to win the Best Actress award at the Emmys for playing the character of Molly Goldberg. Here's the trailer for "Yoo Hoo, Mrs. Goldberg."



I might have had the first trailer on here before, but just in case I'll post both up. This is Peter Jackson's latest production credit (director is Neil Blomkamp, who usually does special effects but has some directing under his belt with more obscure stuff) -- "District 9."





And as an extra this week: "Alive in Joburg," the short film that was the inspiration for "District 9."

Hayao Miyazaki, director of such animated gems as "Spirited Away" and "Castle in the Sky," has a new film being released next month called "Ponyo."



Matt Damon stars in this dark satirical comedy based on a true story, about an informant who manages to take down the lysine price fixing scandal in the mid 1990s. Watch for "The Informant!"



A trip to New Mexico turns out to be hell for a group of campers in the film "Flicker."



Unfortunately, no embedding on this one: a stockbroker in a high rise building learns that no one is telling the truth in "Bull."

Ashton Kutcher stars as a gigolo who's met his match in "Spread."

Once again, it's Trailer Sunday, where I bring the trailers for the movies that are either obscure enough to not get a lot of notice or are just so dang cool.

First up, a red band trailer (which means NSFW) for a documentary on Austrailian cinema called "Not Quite Hollywood."



Robin Williams and John Travolta play two business associates who suddenly find themselves taking care of Williams' twins in "Old Dogs." Also stars Seth Greene.



A remake of the classic horror film about the serial killer searching for the perfect family at any cost -- "The Stepfather."



Here's a new trailer for the upcoming Disney film "The Princess and the Frog."



Everything old is new again, especially in film. Roland Emmerich brings us the newest disaster movie, "2012."

It's Trailer Sunday!

First up -- Woody Harrelson's new zom-com, "Zombieland."

When Bobcat Goldthwait directs a movie, you can guarantee it's going to be a very dark comedy. Judging from this, he doesn't disappoint with "World's Greatest Dad." It stars Robin Williams.



I mentioned something about this earlier this week, but thought it was worth mentioning again (so you know to avoid it!) Michael Moore released a teaser for his new film, which doesn't have a title at the moment, which looks like it's about the current economic crisis.



Looks cute, if you're in to romantic comedies. Nia Vardolas and John Corbett from "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" are reunited for the film "I Hate Valentine's Day."

Michael Moore's New Film

It apparently doesn't have a title yet, but it looks like the subject this time will be Wall Street.



According to Newsbusters, at some theaters ushers were, indeed, taking up a "collection" for the banks.

If it's ends up anything like Moore's other films, I'm sure Moorewatch will be there to fact check the film once it's released. Because you just know that he's going to twist the facts around.

Hulu isn't working for me this morning, so this week's trailers will be coming from the Quicktime site as well as YouTube.

A psychological thriller directed by Jennifer Lynch, produced by father David Lynch. Perception is everything in "Surveillance."

"The Final Destination" -- the latest (and last?) movie in the popular film series which has the most ingenious Rube Goldberg-like "kills." And this one is in 3-D.



Six young thieves try to make it out alive after discovering that they aren't alone in "The Crypt."



Leonardo DiCaprio takes a break from trying to save the plant to actually star in a movie, the Martin Scorcese directed "Shutter Island," about two federal agents investigating the disappearance of a murderess from a criminal asylum.

First up: "Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself"



Next up: the second book in the "Twilight" series, "New Moon," gets the film treatment.



Jeff Daniels plays a reclusive self-help author who doesn't have all the answers in "The Answer Man."



This trailer is being released a year in advance of the movie, but here is the teaser for the upcoming "Toy Story 3."

To start off with, here is a British farce called "In The Loop" about relations between the US and the UK on a possible war in the Middle East.



This one was going around the blogosphere yesterday, so I thought I would feature it here. I saw this one several months ago on Ain't It Cool News, but it's just now getting some attention. The zombie-Nazi comedy horror flick "Dead Snow."



Tim Burton produced this PG-13 animated fantasy about rag dolls that have been given life by their creator to survive a post-apocalyptic world. It's called "9".



Another telling of the classic hero, "Sherlock Holmes."

New Bruce Willis Sci-Fi film, "Surrogates."



Some blogs have made comments about the blond wig that Bruce Willis wears in the film, but it looks like it's only when he's in his surrogate persona that we see him in the wig. Looks pretty neat.

Update:Since this is Trailer Sunday, another trailer for an upcoming movie, this time for the latest from Mike Judge.



I know that after his complications with "Idiocracy," Judge said he wouldn't make another movie with a big studio again. I guess he kept his word -- Miramax is distributing this one.

I Realize That This Movie Is Just One Long Porn Joke...

But I just had to post the trailer for this.

It's called...ahem..."One-Eyed Monster."

Starring former porn star Ron Jeremy. How appropriate.



As an aside, I remember at The Citizen when a rather naive freelance photographer took a picture during a fishing tournament for a story, and when he talked with the guy the person in the picture referred to his catch as his "one eyed trouser trout." And no one caught it before going to print.

Bill O' Reilly previewed the first trailer for the David Zucker film "An American Carol" last night on his show. The movie opens in 2,000 theaters on October 3.



Looks pretty funny. When a better trailer shows up online, I'll put it up.

It looks like Apple has a bunch of new trailers up on the Quicktime site.

"Beer For My Horses" -- Toby Keith plays a small-town deputy whose girlfriend gets kidnapped by Mexican bandits. Also features Claire Forlani, Rodney Carrington, and Willie Nelson.
"Jack Brooks, Monster Slayer" -- A plumber finds a purpose for his inner rage after a professor is possessed by an evil force after he unwittingly unleashes it while working on his pipes. In recent years, Robert Englund has become the Vincent Price for our generation just from the sheer number of horror and sci-fi movies he's been in.
"The Spirit" -- Based on the Will Eisner comic.
"How To Lose Friends and Alienate People" -- A British celebrity writer gets his chance in New York City, and somehow manages to offend everyone he meets. Based on the memoir of the same name. Stars Simon Pegg, Megan Fox, Jeff Bridges and Kirsten Dunst.
